Founded in 2005 by registered architect Melissa Clark, bluehouse architecture is an award-winning, full service architecture firm that provides design services to builders, developers, and homeowners. bluehouse’s services include designs for new homes, residential renovation projects, and commercial establishments.
Ms. Clark emphasizes highly interactive participation with her clients in all stages of a project and uses sketches, material samples, and other illustrative techniques that effectively communicate progress throughout a construction project. This process ensures that all participants have the same understanding and expectations throughout a project.
Since its founding, bluehouse architecture has won a number of prestigious industry and design awards. In addition, the company has received the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year award three times and is a finalist for the 2014 Maryland Small Business of the Year award.
Ms. Clark is a registered architect in Maryland, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia and is a member of the American Institute of Architects and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. She has a B.Arch in architecture from The Pennsylvania State University, where her training included a semester in Rome, Italy studying classical architecture and town planning.
Her studio thesis was “The (Re)Building of Main Street”, a design project that focused on revitalizing Westminster, Maryland’s Main Street. The project focused on the need for gathering spaces, addressing parking concerns, and the creation and reinforcement of a town’s center and identity. The design included townhouse units, a new winery, block interior park, pavilion, parking, restaurant, and four-story mixed-use building with retail and residential units.
